Cognitive Behavior Therapy:
Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) is most appropriate for older children, teens, and adults.
CBT is a merging of cognitive therapy (or cognitive restructuring based on the assumption that
faulty thoughts are influencing behavior) and behavior therapy (goal-oriented approach which
consists of re-arranging rewards / punishments in the environment) to decrease negative behaviors
and increase positive behaviors. Dr. Gangarosa-Emerson typically incorporates other therapies
with CBT, particularly for children.
